Course Description: This UTS course combines the IFSTA First Responder Awareness Level, First Responder Operations Level, and Hazardous Materials Technician Level. This court meets and/or exceeds OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120; EPA and DOT requirements.

  • Recognition of Hazardous Materials

  • Identification of Hazardous Materials Procedures

  • Notification Procedures

  • Isolation Procedures

  • Proper Protection Procedures

  • Research of Onsite Chemicals (ammonia,chlorine, new chemicals)

  • Decontamination

  • Principles of Toxicology

  • Incident Command System

  • Air Monitoring & Air Management Procedures

  • Personal Protection Equipment

  • Exposure Guidelines

  • Respiratory Protection

  • Incident Zone Control Procedures

  • Confinement and Containment

  • Plant Site Chemical Inventory Review

  • Basic Chemistry of Hazardous Materials

Requirements:

  • Textbook: Hazardous Materials Managing the Incident, Fourth Edition

  • Prerequisites: Due to the physical demand required for the hazardous materials response training, each student must be medically cleared and have a fit-test completed prior to attending the initial 40-hour hazardous materials response course.

    • OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120
