Course Description: This UTS course provides emergency response personnel with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to safely, effectively, and in compliance with NFPA 1081, resolve an emergency in a variety of structures found in a plant facility. Through class room instruction and hands-on field exercises, students will gain the necessary confidence in their abilities to be prepared for emergencies they may encounter.

  • Fundamentals of Firefighting (knowledge and skill-based training)

  • Applications of PPE

  • Fire Streams & Hydraulics (basic applications)

  • Air Management Procedures

  • Air Monitoring Procedures (post incident)

  • Dry chemical agents and applications

  • Pre-emergency planning

  • Self-contained breathing apparatus

  • (SCBA confidence training)

  • Firefighting Tactics & Strategy

  • Incident Command System/National Incident Management System (NIMS basic application)

  • Salvage & Overhaul procedures

  • Plant Site Emergency Guidelines

Requirements:

  • Textbook: International Association of Fire Chiefs Industrial Fire Brigade Manual
     

  • Prerequisites: Due to the physical demand required for the live fire training, each student must be medically cleared and have a fit-test completed prior to attending the initial 40-hour fire training course.
